Second Conservative candidate under investigation over election bet

Michael Gove, secretary of state for levelling up, has acknowledged the polls are not the “cheeriest reading” but said that there was still a chance of the Conservative party winning the election in two weeks.

“Obviously the polls are not the cheeriest reading . . .[but] you wait until the final whistle, sometimes it feels like the odds are against you but you keep on fighting,” Gove told Sky News.

Gove, who is not standing for re-election next month, repeated the disputed claim that Labour will raise taxes by £2,000 in the next parliament.

“One of my worries is that [Labour] would increase taxes on pensioners, first time buyers, and businesses.”
